Wilpattu Dream Safari

Sri Lankan Leopard

The Sri Lankan Leopard (Panthera pardus kotiya) is the most famous and most wanted wildlife sighting in Sri Lanka. This powerful big cat is an endemic subspecies found only in Sri Lanka, making it a truly special safari experience for visitors from around the world.

Leopards are known for their golden-yellow coat covered in dark rosettes, strong muscular body, and silent hunting style. Unlike many big cats, Sri Lankan leopards are excellent climbers and often rest on tree branches or rocky areas, watching over their territory. Seeing a leopard in the wild—walking calmly across a safari road or appearing suddenly near a jungle lake—is an unforgettable moment and one of the biggest highlights of a Sri Lanka safari.
